Science Laboratory Technician

Chairo Christian School is a non-denominational Christian school with over 1,700 Kinder to Year 12 students attending five picturesque campuses in West and South Gippsland, the Latrobe Valley and the south eastern outskirts of Melbourne. 

Our mission is to provide excellence in Christ-centred education in partnership with families within a caring Christian community. In doing this, we aim to prepare students thoroughly for further study, careers, service and life in general.

We are currently seeking the services of a dedicated Laboratory Technician to commence work in the Science department at our Drouin Campus in January 2022. 

Some key responsibilities will include the following:

  • Setting a godly example to students and fellow staff members through their practice, manner, relationships and general lifestyle
  • Assisting teaching staff with demonstrations of laboratory techniques
  • Maintaining adequate laboratory supplies for classes
  • Undertaking workplace safety for the Science department
  • Maintaining registers in relation to OHS obligations
  • Liaising with organisation and industries regarding materials and equipment

Having obtained relevant experience as a Laboratory Technician, the successful candidate will also possess the following important characteristics:

  • Demonstrated commitment to the school’s Statement of Faith
  • Qualifications as a Laboratory Technician (desirable)
  • Excellent people and communication skills
  • Sound science and technology skills
  • Knowledge of related regulations and legislation
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory Working with Children check

Note: under the current public health direction authorised by the Chief Health Officer of the Victorian Government, all staff employed to work on-site at Chairo Christian School are required to be double vaccinated against COVID-19 by 29 November 2021.

Rebecca, Pakenham Teacher

I studied a Bachelor of Science and then went on to complete a Master of Teaching, inspired to provide early-intervention to students in lower primary and share a love of science amongst primary students. I have taught a Years 1–2 class, DigiTech and a Year 4 class in my first three years at Chairo and have found great joy in being able to share my love of science and technology with students.

I love working at Chairo because I get to see students learn in an environment where they are cared for holistically. I love being able to teach students about the world that God has made, but also about the God who has made everything, including them! I also enjoy teaching students in a variety of ways in order to pique their interests and love of learning.

I'm passionate about supporting students to become enthusiastic about learning, growing and challenging themselves to discover more about God and his world. I especially love to teach Science, demonstrating to students that the subject isn't a scary, impossible idea, but in fact a subject where we uncover the brilliance and wonder in what God has made.
